Dr. Simone Lundquist, Founder, Executive Director, and President

Dr SimonDr. Simone Lundquist has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology and another Master of Arts in English Literature and Linguistics. She has taught at prestigious universities, colleges, and institutes for over 35 years and is currently an adjunct Professor at San Jose State University. She is extremely excited that she has finally been able to make her lifetime dream a reality; the establishment of this non-profit, where she and her colleagues provide low-cost consultation services for healing and transformation to the underserved members of the community to help them overcome the problems and obstacles that are holding them back, achieve their goals in different areas, and improve their relationships so they can live happier, more successful lives consistent with their own values and intentions for life.

Dr. Lundquist has gained rich experiences serving culturally diverse clientele from different walks of life in community mental health agencies such as Momentum for Mental Health, La Selva Group Behavioral Health Services, Contra Costa Crisis Center, the Center for Survivors of Torture, Asian Americans for Community Involvement, and her private practice for over 25 years now. She has helped improve the lives of hundreds of her clients including Veterans returning from combat who suffered from trauma, depression, anxiety, survivor guilt, emptiness, anger, loss of sense of belonging, conflict with their spouse and children, homelessness, problematic alcohol or drug use, and suicidal thoughts. Her successful ‘Voice Hearing’ groups facilitated the liberation of many individuals diagnosed with Schizophrenia from the damaging impacts of the symptoms, labels, and isolation, making it possible for them to enjoy successful independent lives.

As a professional presenter, she has provided numerous trainings, workshops, and panels on effective ways to help people with different presenting problems such as depression, anxiety, anger, loss, grief, trauma (war, sexual assault, violence), and Schizophrenia at National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), California Association of Social Rehabilitation Agencies (CASRA), Momentum for Mental Health, California School of Clinical Psychology (CSPP), Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI) and many other SF & SJ Mental Health agencies.

Dr. Lundquist developed the Personal Agency Questionnaire (PAQ), an outcome assessment tool based on the concept of agency in Narrative Theory in 2012 http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/pubnum/3722307.html. She conducted another research on this outcome measure (PAQ) with added variables of gender, perception of being overweight, and fat acceptance to establish additional validity and reliability for the Personal Agency Questionnaire in 2015. Currently, Dr. Lundquist maintains an active line of research investigating the damaging impacts of the dominant cultural discourses on the lives of individuals and their sense of personal agency.

Lisa Intrieri Caputo, Vice President & Board Member

LisaLisa joined Ferrari Ottoboni Caputo & Wunderling LLP in 1994 and became a Partner in 1999, demonstrating her commitment and leadership over the past two decades. She earned her law degree from Santa Clara University in 1992, followed by an LL.M. in taxation from Golden Gate University in 1993.

Throughout her distinguished career, Lisa has provided expert legal representation to numerous individuals and families, specializing in complex estate planning, wealth transfer strategies, family business succession, closely held business planning, tax planning, tax litigation, charitable planning, estate and gift tax disputes, trust administration, and probate matters. She is a published author and has presented before prestigious bodies such as the United States Senate Finance Committee and the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C., addressing the complex regulations with respect to the Federal Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax.

Lisa’s excellence in her field has earned her the distinction of being recognized as a California Super Lawyer in Estate Planning and Probate for 20 years. Additionally, in December 2019, Lisa was recognized and selected by her peers for her professional achievements as one of Northern California’s Top Women Attorneys further underscoring her significant contributions to the legal community.

Beyond her professional achievements, Lisa is deeply philanthropic. In addition to her past philanthropic endeavors, she currently serves as Board member and Vice President of Open Doors to Future Possibilities, is a member of the Advisor Steering Committee for the Catholic Community Foundation and is actively involved as a Board member of the San Jose Police Department Foundation. Furthermore, she is a dedicated supporter of the YWCA’s annual fundraising event.

In her personal life, Lisa cherishes her time outdoors, enjoys the company of her family, and adores her dog, Tucker.

Dr. Clyde Horn, Treasurer & Board Member

Dr Clyde HornDr. Clyde Horn is a semi-retired licensed psychotherapist and Vietnam Combat Wounded Veteran who served in the 199th Light Infantry Brigade 1967-68. He has received numerous medals of honor for his service, including the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, and three Vietnam service, unit and campaign medals. Through his education at California Baptist University, Southwestern Theological Seminary, Azusa Pacific University and Colton University culminated in three Masters Degrees in Theology, Education and Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

An accomplished writer, speaker, photographer, and advocate for veterans, Dr. Horn has authored two books: “PTSD in Pictures & Words” and “Veteran Guilt in Pictures & Words”, in which he utilized his hobby of photography as a medium for creative expression and his own therapy. As a 100% disabled veteran and semi-retired licensed psychotherapist, he meets weekly with other veterans to help them navigate the disability system and provide support.

Currently, Dr. Horn serves as a Board Member for Open Doors to Future Possibilities, the Veterans Memorial & Support Foundation in Los Gatos, CA, and is a member of the Los Gatos Kiwanis Club and American Legion Post 318.

Colonel Christopher Starling, USMC (Ret.), Board Member

Colonel Christopher StarlingColonel Chris Starling retired from the Marine Corps with 26 years of service as an infantry officer, completing ten overseas deployments including three combat tours. His post-retirement work has been focused on the Veteran community. Currently, he is the Executive Director of NPower California, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of creating pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for military Veterans and young adults from underserved communities. He also serves on the board of trustees at San Francisco Maritime National Park Association as well as Veteran Launch Board of Advisors, Main Street Launch.

Colonel Starling earned his BA in Modern Languages from the Virginia Military Institute and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the City University of New York. Additionally, he was a National Security Affairs Fellow from 2007 to 2008 at Hoover Institution, Stanford University where he conducted research on current and future national security issues.

Colonel Starling has served in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Marine Divisions, participating in Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Iraqi Freedom. While on active duty, he commanded the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines in Camp Lejeune, NC, and the 23rd Marine Regiment in San Bruno, CA. His other previous assignments include service in the U.S. Pacific Command’s Counter-Drug Inter-Agency Task Force in Alameda, CA and as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point; Chief of the Partnership Division at U.S. Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany; and the senior U.S. Military Advisor to the Emirati Presidential Guard in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

 

Nha-Nghi Nguyen, Board Member

Nha Nghi NguyenNha-Nghi Nguyen earned her Master Degree in Business Administration in Technology Management. For the past 16 years, she has served on the California State PTA Board of Managers for ten years. On that board, she has served on the Family Engagement Commission as vice-chair of the commission, on the Program and Services Commission, Convention Commission, Resolutions Committee, Student Involvement Committee, and Reflections Art Committee. She has also served as executive vice president of Sixth District PTA, which encompasses several counties, and as auditor and secretary of her area PTA council. She has served as PTA president at her child’s elementary and middle school. She has launched several local PTAs. Nha-Nghi has been employed in different levels of education including pre-school, special education, elementary, middle school, and now higher education. She is passionate and believes that all children deserve to have the best education possible in a healthy environment to achieve a successful life. She is an active volunteer in her community and has held many positions supporting children and families in their education and health.

She is a Public Voice Fellow and has published several Op-Eds with different known Media Outlets including the Hill Reporter and Mercury News. She currently works at San Jose State University, in the Psychology Department.

 

Gail Rigelhaupt, Secretary & Board Member

Gail RigelhauptGail Rigelhaupt earned her Master of Science in Counseling and another Master of Science in Early Childhood Education. For the past 24 years, Gail Rigelhaupt, has worked throughout Contra Costa County with marginalized populations of women, children, and families captured by and affected by substance addiction. She currently serves as Clinical Director for Ujima Family Recovery Services where she supervises substance abuse treatment programs and the Ujima Children’s Recovery & Family Education Program. She has devoted her career to counseling, family therapy and early childhood education with a particular focus on underserved communities.

Gail has been recognized, commended and awarded for her dedication and commitment to the marginalized women, children and families. Among those are: ‘People who make a difference’ certificate of Merit, ‘Certificate of Merit, State of California Senate, Contra Costa County Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board,’ and ‘20 years of Service Award.’
